Artificial Intelligence Research Directions in Oil and Gas Industries
In the modern world, Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most important general-purpose technologies which rapidly transform industries, creating significant potential for innovations and growth. It coincides with the exponential growth of AI capabilities and the Oil and Gas industry's movement toward the industrial revolution 4.0 concept, whose core goal is to achieve higher value by utilizing advanced digital technologies. Oil and gas applications are directly influential to every country's growth and have been seen with the ease of transportation at both the global and local levels. The applications and scope of AI in the oil and gas industry are to optimize upstream operations (exploration, drilling, reservoir, and production), midstream operations (transportation using pipelines, ships, and road vehicles), and downstream operations (production of refinery products like fuels, lubricants, and petroleum products). Its additional operational capabilities include strengthening the modelling of reservoirs, fault detection, risk analysis, reservoir stability and maintenance prevention. Another essential implementation of AI in the Oil and Gas industry is detecting anomalies; it helps locate patterns and forestall failures based on the relationship between real-time readings. Finally, the implementation of AI in the Oil and Gas industry is rapidly growing and is currently being used in intelligent drilling, reservoir modelling, feasibility analysis, accident prevention, refinery operations optimization, etc.
